adding pops of color to neutral decor

My living room is done in neutrals, but I like adding touches
of a bright color to keep the room interesting.

I am loving bright blue mingled with beige and brown lately.
I've noticed that bright blue and lime are are the new go-to color combo,
but I'm having a hard time finding lime green accessories.
And I'm just not "feeling" the lime right now. Maybe in the spring.

I found this pretty blue vessel at HomeGoods.

I played around with my buffet decor again and came up with this new vignette
with several touches of blue.

Which led me to more rearranging of the ladder shelf.
After Christmas, I had posted this picture of the ladder shelf.
I wasn't crazy about the top shelf - I thought it looked too uniform
and boring. And there wasn't enough blue for my liking.

Soooo...
I moved one of the owls to the top shelf and added
a collection of blue vases to a tray on the second to last shelf.

 Loving the blue!

Are you a neutral or whites type of decorator, or do you like pops of color?

  1. I love the color combinations of blue and lime...I saw that a lot in Christmas decorations. Your shelves look great, you have done the same as I do with my mantel, lining things up in a row. I find by zig zagging the placement and adding a few small things in the front keeps it from looking like that. I'm really no one to talk...I haven't taken my Christmas stuff down yet!! Just too much coming and going and people dropping in.

You are up late, drop me an email if you get this before bed.

    XO,
    Jane

  3. With kids & dogs I can't do white - so I'm definitely a neutral girl. Love the pops of blue in your living room...very pretty! :)

  4. hmmm, good question. I love colors but I guess I tend more to neutrals. 2 of the bedrooms have more color in them but now that I think about it, all the other rooms are neutrals like beiges, browns (no whites) with accent colors.
Your things all look so pretty, I really like the 3 owls and think I need to look for some of my own. We even saw a real owl sitting on a fencepost when we took the grandsons home last night.

  11. I love pops of color. I couldn't live without it. I love your blues - a color that I wasn't much interested in a few years back - but now it's all over my home!

  12. Your pops of color here and there are wonderful . . . in fact I have the same blue bottle that you featured
at the top of your post, and I love it :) In my family room I painted two walls taupe and two walls a soft turquoise.
Then I used blues, greens and naturals for all my furniture, accessories and art. The room use to be our garage and
there is a trap in the ceiling that goes to the attic. Instead of trying to hide it, I trimmed out the boarder
and covered the trap door with a nautical chart.
It is so much fun turning our houses into homes that say to the world this home reflect me and my family . . .
after living in the same place for a while your home becomes part of the family.
We have lived in yours for about 30 years.

Your home looks wonderful . . . very tranquil and cozy :)

    Have a marvelous day,
    Your blogging sister, Connie :)

  13. I think the blue is so pretty! I like a background of white with lots of color. Mostly red, aqua, and yellow.
