the color of ocean and sky

I love color. Lots of colors...blue, red, green, purple, yellow, pink.
But I think if I had to pick a favorite, it would be blue. And if it's the shade of blue
like the ocean and sky, so much the better.

My living room is done in neutrals but has touches of bright blue...
turquoise, aqua. I recently painted the round mirror in the window
frame a beautiful blue.

I have other touches of blue in the living room ~ plates, candle holders,
lamps, and vases...

...pillows and plant holders.

Perhaps my love of turquoise and aqua started when I painted this wicker
chair a few years ago. At first I thought it was "too much". Now I love it.

I found the blue throw last year at HomeGoods. I think it adds the perfect
color and balance to the all the neutral going on in the couch, walls, rug,
ottomans, and pictures above the couch.

" Blue is the color of the sky and sea. It is often associated with depth and stability.
It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven.
Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body."

What is your favorite color? Do you show it in your home decor?

adding excitement to the hallway bath

My main bath is done in neutrals ~ gray, white, and black.
While those colors can look striking on their own, I need color.
I played up the floating shelves with blue and yellow mini picture frames, a colorful
bird, a bright green candle, and what was originally a (bright blue) cupcake
stand, now used to hold Dixie cups.

I think these pops of color fit in well with the vivid colors in the towel
and pictures on the wall beside the sink.

See the basket beside the toilet? I was looking for a tall, narrow basket
to fit in this space and found this at HomeGoods. It's great for not only holding
extra rolls of toilet paper, but for hiding the ugly piping that comes off the back of
the toilet and goes into the wall. The basket has a little chalkboard label, so I
suppose I could find a piece of chalk and mark the label, "TP". Naah, that's
too boring and obvious. I think I'll write, "wipe". :-)

adding pops of color to neutral decor

My living room is done in neutrals, but I like adding touches
of a bright color to keep the room interesting.

I am loving bright blue mingled with beige and brown lately.
I've noticed that bright blue and lime are are the new go-to color combo,
but I'm having a hard time finding lime green accessories.
And I'm just not "feeling" the lime right now. Maybe in the spring.

I found this pretty blue vessel at HomeGoods.

I played around with my buffet decor again and came up with this new vignette
with several touches of blue.

Which led me to more rearranging of the ladder shelf.
After Christmas, I had posted this picture of the ladder shelf.
I wasn't crazy about the top shelf - I thought it looked too uniform
and boring. And there wasn't enough blue for my liking.

Soooo...
I moved one of the owls to the top shelf and added
a collection of blue vases to a tray on the second to last shelf.

 Loving the blue!

Are you a neutral or whites type of decorator, or do you like pops of color?
