reading pile

One of my greatest pleasures in life is reading.

My reading pile is actually much bigger than this - I have hundreds of books that I haven't
even read yet - but these are the books I've recently received in the mail
 through various sources.

I just finished reading "Flight Behavior". Barbara Kingsolver has always been
one of my favorite authors, but I was disappointed with her newest book.
The characters weren't developed, and the storyline was rather boring.
I kept waiting for something exciting to happen, and it never did.
Kingsolver is a biologist and it really shows in this book. Nothing wrong with that,
but all the scientific facts about butterflies and global warming in this story
made my eyes glaze over. She should've saved all that for a non-fiction book.

I started Anne Lamott's new book, "Help, Thanks, Wow" last night.
It's a short book and I could've read it all in one sitting, but I had to get to bed.
It is wonderful, heartfelt, inspiring - and hard to put down.

My husband got to "Gone Girl" before I did. He loved it. I'm a bit "afraid"
to read it. I normally don't get into thrillers, and this one sounds a bit scary.

Can't wait to delve into Miss Mustard Seed's new book, "Inspired You"!

I'd love to hear what books you've recently escaped into or what
you're currently reading.

  1. I'm a Kingsolver fan as well but I may steer clear of that book. I'm currently reading "Truth and Beauty" by Ann Patchett; I'm a fan of hers and this is a true story about a friendship between her and another girl, Lucy. So far, it's a lovely, sweetly poignant story.

  2. Looks like you have a wonderful stack of reading there! I like Kingsolver, too, but have not read this one.

  3. I just started Ina May's Guide To Childbirth. My youngest daughter, my hippy little Birkenstock wearing earth mother, is having a home birth. Her first baby and I'm going to be there. Yes, I'm terrified. After 3 kids and 2 other grands, you'd think childbirth would not be an issue with me. All of those births were in hospitals, not on the living room floor. :)

  4. I love to read and currently I'm reading a sweet little story "Always Green" by Patti Hill. I love mysteries also. Not much of a Kingsolver fan but one of my friends loves her! Books are a passion of mine for sure!

  5. I love reading too. I put aside my regular reads for Christmas themed books. Right now it incluldes...Glad Tidings by Debbie Macomber, I Saw Three Ships by Elizabeth Goudge (read this each Christmas), The Christmas Mystery by Jostein Gaarder (another yearly reread tradition) and The Plum Pudding Murder by Joanne Fluke)among a few of them. I will continue with these books through the holidays to give me a festive reading mood.

I looked up Blackberry Winter from seeing it in your stack and want to get this book. It sounds really good.

    Hugs from Holland ~

  6. I'll be interested to read what you have to say about Inspired You. I don't buy many Home Decor type books anymore. I want to get Rhonda's Down to Earth. I just finished Little Farm in the Foothills and really enjoyed it

  7. I barely have time to read anymore, even my 3 magazine subscriptions are piling up. Blogging seems to take all my time along with my website. I bet Mustard Seed's book is very good though. Happy Holidays! xo

  8. I've always been a passionate reader, but because of our fascination with the library book sale, I tend to read whatever I find. That doesn't always lend itself to seeking out the books you WANT to read. But still, books are books! I've been especially enjoying Ann Rivers Siddons lately. Inspired You sounds like a great book, might have to seek that one out.

  9. Books are a temptation, don't you think so?
I thought I was the only one who loves to buy books and yet can't finish reading all of them.
Just finished reading the "Hobbit" by JRR Tolkien.
Now reading "Iris and the dragonflies" by Rosemary Danielis.
Light reading, just for the love of adventure :)
