mexican hot chocolate cookies

Let the holiday baking begin!

I made Mexican Hot Chocolate cookies today.

The chocolate dough is rich and flavorful on its own,
but right before baking you roll the dough balls in a mixture of
sugar, cinnamon, and ~ surprise! ~  chili powder.
The cinnamon and chili powder are what really adds the element
of depth and spice to this cookie without overwhelming it.

Do yourself  ~ and your friends and family, if you choose to share ~ a favor
and make these for the holidays. Jo-Anna says they're especially good
with a glass of Baileys, but I'll have to take her word for it.
I'm too full from dinner stuffed from sneaking bits of the dough
and a couple of cookies as soon as they came out of the oven!

Have you done any holiday baking yet?

  1. These sound "dee-wishus" (to quote my fav 3 yo)! I copied the recipe to try this weekend - after that little man and I make cut-out sugar cookies. That will be just about all my holiday baking.

  2. Whoa! Chili powder in a cookie...I'm going to try this one; I have a cookie exchange at my house next week and wanted to do something fun and new...I believe this may be it!!! Thank you!

  3. Those sound REALLY good! I kicked it off last night with a batch of fudge. A family tradition.

  4. These look and sound delicious! I am intrigued by the chili powder. It seems unexpected, but I bet it would work really well. I haven't begun my baking yet, but I have a cookie exchange next weekend so I'll be getting into gear soon.

  5. Oh, these look sooo good! I would be sneaking bits of the dough as well. Thank you for sharing and thank you for the sweet comment at The Dedicated House. It means the world! Would love it if you would share this or any other posts you have at my Make it Pretty Monday party which goes live at 8am CST on Monday. Hope to see you at the bash! Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse

  6. oooh yum! The chili powder is what intrigues me! I'm going to have to try this recipe!

  7. That's unusual! Will have to try it and just not tell anyone about the chili powder! ha

    1. Honestly, Judy, they will never know. I had both my husband and son try one and they had no idea what that coating was. They finally said, "Maybe a little cinnamon?" But they were very surprised about the chili powder.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a kind comment - I read and appreciate each one!
