kitchen wall design choices

I have this huge, looming, bare wall in my kitchen.
It's intimidating!
How to decorate? There's so many choices.

At first, I was thinking I'd want to do a plate collage, such as this...

And then I saw this beautiful plate and mirror arrangement
by Michael on Inspired by Charm and was instantly smitten...

I also love this empty frame arrangement from Penny's Vintage Home...

Then, there's this lovely empty frame, plate, and mirror arrangement
from Country Living...

What to do, what to do.
So, I've been playing with different arrangements on my basement floor
before I permanently hang stuff on the kitchen wall.
Because sometimes I get too excited and randomly start hanging things,
then decide it doesn't look "just right". And I start moving things around,
leaving excess nail holes ~ which drives my husband (understandably) crazy!

Here's what I came up with today. Mind you, all the frames would be
painted white.
Not too sure about that round mirror on the bottom right.

Here's what the arrangement would look like if I hung it on the wall.
I realized after taking this photo and seeing it on my computer,
that the two large plates on top aren't going to work if I want to put
tchotchkes on the top shelf.

That's enough "playing" for now. Time to go pop some popcorn
and watch a movie with the hubby.
Hope you all are having a relaxing Sunday!

  1. I like them all! I always wanted a kitchen table (rectangular) against a kitchen wall with a lamp for some reason...

    1. I agree, Brenda - that is such a cozy look! Hmm, that gives me another idea. (Oh, no!) I could do that with my table and chair set, as there's only the 3 of us living here. I could always then pull the table out and put the 4th chair in place if we have an extra guest.

  2. I've always been a sucker for empty frames on the wall. I would put the mirror into another frame....

  3. All of your possibilities are pretty, but my favorite of those looks is the one with just empty white frames and nothing else. That's mostly because the frames are very ornate, and it makes it look vintage. I agree with Linda, put the mirror into a frame. I think the white squirrel you saw on my blog is an anomaly. But I do think they may have bred a few more albinos like it, because there are definitely two of them in that park, maybe more.

  4. I love all your ideas! That is a hard decision....I definitely like the plate option, maybe with a mirror thrown in. I think it will make more of an impact if all of the items are a similar shape. Good Luck!

  5. I like your arrangement and the mirror on the bottom. I like the plates but would get in the way if you placed taller items on the top shelf. I Love empty frames, but I wouldn't put the mirror in one, I think not being in a frame, else It would be heavy with frames - that's my take on it. I'd love to have a wall that long to decorate, but it can be intimidating!
