Hello friends ~ hope you all had a good weekend. Mine was quiet.
I went to a library book sale on Saturday and came home with these seven
books, all for $3.50. I'm reading Once Upon a Time, There Was You right
now. Elizabeth Berg used to be one of my favorite authors; not so much
anymore. Her old stuff was much better. I haven't given up on Elizabeth
though...I'm still hoping to find her old spark in her newer books.
I ordered a new kitchen rug from overstock.com and it was delivered in a few
days. I'm really happy with it - it's modern, bright, and fresh. Though I wish it
were more of a true yellow instead of a goldish-yellow. It's thin, like a cotton
rug (perfect for a kitchen), but yet it's 100% wool.
One of the dinner meals I made last week was Szechuan Peanut Chicken.
It was quick and easy to make and so delicious. I found the recipe here.
Oh - speaking of rugs - remember how I brought the white shag rug up
from the family room and put it in the living room? (Sorry for the grainy
picture - I didn't have the original anymore and had to re-use the one
from my blog.)
Well, getting-old-and-a-bit-senile Zippo decided that he liked the rug upstairs
well enough to use it as a litter box. It was just a little bit in a corner, so I blotted
it up and am using a product called Nature's Miracle that I got at PetCo. So far,
it's working a lot better than just plain vinegar. I didn't want to take any chances
of Zippo marking the rug again, so I moved it back downstairs. For some reason,
he doesn't bother the rug down there. Maybe because he's hardly ever downstairs.
So now the brown and white rug is back in place.
Happy Monday, everyone.
You got a wonderful bargain for all of those books. I like your new kitchen rug.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Penny!
DeleteLooks like you have lots of reading in store. I have books from friends piled here and there. One of these days I'll actually have to turn the pages. :) Shame kitty decided to use the rug as a litter box. Guess he didn't like you moving things around. :) The new kitchen rug fits the space perfectly. Have a great week. Tammy
ReplyDeleteI have hundreds more books in my bookcases to read, so this is just a drop in the big pond. ;-) Yeah, bad kitty...he also peed in a floor plant last month when we were gone overnight and a friend took care of the kitties. He's 14-1/2 and getting a little crazy, I'm afraid. Glad you like the new kitchen rug.
DeleteLove your kitchen rug and the blue wall in your kitchen, that is really distinctive. I feel the SAME exact way about Elizabeth Berg! I used to LOVE her, read every new book as soon as it came out and re-read most of them a few times over the years. But that book where the daughter gets kidnapped really turned me off. I didn't enjoy it at all and I have lost interest because I'm afraid anything else she writes will be like that. I've been disappointed because her books were a big part of my life for years, but maybe she was having creative changes.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment on the kitchen rug. I feel the same way you do about Berg.
DeleteOh, and if you enjoy the Christina Schwartz book, you HAVE to read her novel All Is Vanity (if you haven't already); it's excellent.
ReplyDeleteYep, I've read All is Vanity, but I see from the reviews on Amazon about So Long at the Fair, that it's not very good. Oh well, if I don't like it as I start reading it, it goes in the donate pile.
DeleteLove the new rug! Really makes a fun focal point in the room!
ReplyDeleteI like the new chevron rug but it looks apple green on my iPad. Now I am wondering if all colors look goofy on this thing. Your dinner looks delicious and it's coloring looks realistic, it's making me hungry
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny that the rug looks apple green on your iPad. It's anything but! Maybe there's a color adjustment thing on the settings on your iPad?
DeleteGood Morning Melanie, your new kitchen rug is so cheerful, I love the chevron design. It looks perfect there and goes so well with your blue walls.
ReplyDeleteSorry about your kitty, but that brown and white rug is very nice and looks warm and cozy there.
Keep Smiling,
Your blogging sister, Connie :)
Thank you so much, Connie.
DeleteHi Melanie,
ReplyDeleteLove your new chevron rug, (on my screen it's showing a gold/mustardy hue), and it perfectly complements your pale blue wall and your little yellow trinkets displayed on the shelf. Isn't it exciting adding new pieces to a room? They enrich the space so nicely.
Happy Wednesday!
xo

Thanks, Poppy - that's what I was going for...a color to complement the blue and white, but yet not too perfectly matchy-matchy.
DeleteI really love that spot in your kitchen with that darling round table. It looks like it must be so nice to have dinner there. One of the stray cat I feed things my frint door is the perfect place to pee!
ReplyDeleteIt's the only spot in our house to have a meal as we don't have a separate dining room! Sounds like the stray kitty is marking its territory.
DeleteLove your new rug. It give a great pop of color.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Robin!
