goodwill finds and a new chandelier

I've calmed down since my last post. I'm not freaking out or tweaking about
Tim getting things done anymore. I decided to let it go...whatever will be, will be
and all that jazz. I can only control so much, right? Lovely Balisha from the blog,
Never Enough Time had left a comment that "kids always seem to put off things until
the very end...I know mine always did. They do seem to come through with flying
colors. I read somewhere just this week... that if we worry too much about how our
kids handle things...it shows that we don't have confidence in their ablility to work
things out on their own." Such wise words! So I guess you won't be surprised to hear
that Tim's done a lot of packing. And picked up his drum set today. Still working on
his car though. Let it go...

When I was at Goodwill the other day, I found two great black tops for fall, a pair
of dark-washed Levis that  fit me perfectly (which is pretty darn amazing -  I have a
very hard time find jeans that fit me well), and some pretties for my home.
Love these green and blue glass candlesticks - the colors are perfect for the
living room - but I'm not going to keep them on this window ledge. I've been playing
around with placement and new vignettes.

I have a fondness for pretty teapots even though I'm more of a coffee drinker.
This one's a Marjolein Bastin teapot. I believe they used to sell these at Hallmark.
Now you can find them on eBay and etsy. I only paid $3 for mine though. And that
first Sarah Jio book you see - Morning Glory - that's the author's newest book that
isn't going to be out until November 26th. This is an Advanced Reader's Copy, but
that doesn't matter to me, especially for 89 cents!

I love white dishes, especially white plates. And I won't eat off any dishes made
in China, so I was thrilled to find these Johnson Brothers (England) ironstone plates.
They were marked at $1.99 each, but when I got up to the cash register, the employee
noticed that one of the stickers on the plates was green. And it happened to be "50% off
green sticker day". She said that she'd then ring all the plates up at 50% off. Woo-hoo!
It gets even better...I also had a 25% off coupon for my birthday. So I got the plates
for 75 cents each! Such a deal, I'm telling you.

I don't collect pigs or creamers, but this vintage creamer was so cute, I just
couldn't pass it up.

I know this isn't exactly a chandelier in the crystals-hanging-from-it type, so what
would you call it? Whatever it is, I like it. My mom bought it years ago from a little
shop on one of our outings, but eventually got tired of it and gave it to me. It's
been sitting in my basement for a few years and I finally got Brian to hang it in
my office/Phil's old room.

This room has been - and still is - a work in progress. I know I need art
work for the walls. Heck, I don't even know if I'll keep this furniture arranged
as it is now. But, at least I got the chandelier hung! Do you think it needs to
be a little bit lower?

Speaking of (slow) progress on this room, we finally got blinds for the windows.
Next up: curtains. We take baby steps.

Tim and his friend are out in the garage, working on the car. I can't tell you how
many hundreds of times they've been in and out of the house today; the door
constantly slamming. Do you think I'll miss that?

  1. It looks like you found alot of pretty things. As far as jeans, I too have a hard time finding them to fit. I always bought mine at Penneys, but they discontinued the brand when they change things around. I did stock up on some before they got rid of them though.

    1. Lee brand used to fit me the best, but the last pair I bought was from Old Navy. They weren't the best fit, but were comfy. I love these Levis!

  2. My grandchildren are door slammers.... I can't deal with it.

    1. It honestly wasn't Tim and his friend's fault that the door was slamming...this one door is in a spot (kitchen into garage) that kind of echoes. It's actually hard to close it quietly, especially when you're in a hurry.

  3. Silas doesn't slam doors closed, he slams them open. Yep, there are a few dented walls around here...

I went to Goodwill last week and walked out with nothing. Saw a few things I liked, but wasn't going to pay more for it there than it cost brand new. Argh.

    1. I don't know if I've ever walked out of Goodwill without buying anything, lol! But this particular GW is one of THE nicest ones I've ever been to.

  4. I don't enjoy door-slamming. We have all kinds of door-stops in our house to protect the walls. My kids are still little, though, so I'm sure I have a lot of slamming ahead of me, especially since their dad is kind of a slammer himself. :) I love your Goodwill finds, it's all much better than anything I ever see at Goodwill!

  5. When I read your blog, the first thing that came to mind was "knock it off!!" lol To any non-Australians, this is a slang term for 'stop it!' lol I just cannot believe your finds!! lol I am seriously looking in all the wrong places lol I love your chandelier and I think in comparison to the chair, its just the right height. :o) You have such a knack for item placement. :o)

    1. Seriously, Alex, you wouldn't believe the "treasures" that me and my mom have found at this particular Goodwill. This stuff above wasn't even that thrilling compared to some other past finds! ;-) Thank you so much for the compliment about my knack for item placement - much appreciated!

  6. I have to go back to read your ranting post! lol! I've been a bad blogger lately...life.

Your Goodwill finds are fantastic! I love the plates, how many did you get? And is that a new window frame? I may have forgotten, I am such a ditz lately. I don't have a problem with jeans, I am always in the same size and I'm not fussy about how they look. As long as they zip, I'm happy!

Your rooms are looking great! Is the 2nd room an office? Love the chandy...you could probably add crystals if you wanted.

    XO,
    Jane

    1. I only got 4 plates, Jane. There were about 10 more, but I don't need more than 4. We rarely have company and when I have family parties, there's so many of us that I use paper plates. As for the window frame, no, not new. I've had it for many years. It's shown up in other blog pictures of my living room. You are a rare woman if you don't have problems with jeans fitting "just right". Did you know the average woman tries on 15 pairs of jeans before finding the right one?! For me (and I have a feeling, a lot of women), it's not the size...it's the particular fit of the brand and style. I've worn the same size for years too, but all jeans are cut differently. This 2nd room that I was showing in this post was Phil's room. I call it my "office" but it's simply a beautiful room. There's a TV in there and Phil's memory shelf, as well.

  9. Melanie, you found some really terrific things at the thrift store. The little pig creamer is so cute and those white plates are really nice and white plates are always(one of my favorite reasons to buy)practical. Love the chandelier, too,and your office looks really pretty with it hanging in the corner. I think it is hung perfectly.
