ongoing living room saga

A blogging friend, Heidi from The Cranberry Chronicle Continues, suggested
that I move the console table in front of the window and the tall black table
under the mirror where the console table used to be.  I tried it out, and here's
what it looked like. The cats loved their new perch!

I actually liked this new arrangement but...
it didn't look good in the evening once I had to close the blinds.
The blinds are wooden and with them closed, the window area was
simply a big, boring mass of brown.

So, like I mentioned in my post two days ago, I did a lot of furniture
rearranging, and I moved the console table into my bedroom.
All I have in front of the window now is a white plant stand and the black chair.
What I really want for this area is a drop-leaf table and a couple of chairs.

My inspiration picture for the table and chairs comes from KariAnne at Thistlewood Farms.
I could SO picture something like this in front of my living room window!

Back Porch

I was at a local antique mall today and spied a beautiful drop-leaf table like
the one above, but instead of being cottage-like and distressed, it was restored to its
original, beautiful condition and the price was $195. Ha! Of course, I didn't buy it.

Well, stay tuned. Who knows what might be in front of that window tomorrow, the
way I change things around!

  1. Melanie,
I LOVE the white plant stand in front of your window! It really opened everything up and of course all of that glorious light coming in is wonderful!

    1. Thank you, Jemma! It does make the small living room look bigger.

  2. Even though I do love the plant stand, I think you need more weight to help balance out the room. The table and chairs would be perfect, not bulky and still leaves the area with an open feel. I know you'll find the "right" piece!

  3. It looks like your kitties really flocked right to that window!! They are so cute. I like the table there. I think a drop leaf table would be great. I have one at the lake and I found it already painted white and chippy. Yay! Keep looking, you'll find one sooner or later. Craig's List maybe?

Isn't it fun to move things around? Helps us to 'see' them again.

  6. You have been so busy working on your decor, and it looks wonderful! Just a thought for you about the table vs. console dilemma. If you left the brown table in front of the brown blinds, you simply need something tall and colorful on the table to balance it out. Now I realize the cats might disagree. But I thought I'd put that out there. Isn't there a clay type putty that you can use to hold vases and such firmly on tables? I don't know where you'd get it, but I know it exists, and might help a little with the kitties knocking things down.

    1. I agree with you about something tall and colorful on the console table if I put it back in front of the window, but the cats would definitely knock everything over. I have no idea if there is some kind of putty that holds things down, but even if I were to do that, the cats would still jump up there and be pushing against whatever was there. They are very naughty! They will do anything to get a look at the birds outside the window!

  9. Glad you rearranged it, Melanie! The area near your window looks more open now, allowing more light to come through. It would be nice to spend the afternoon reading books near your window. I just wish your cats love the new arrangement too. ^_^
