the color of ocean and sky

I love color. Lots of colors...blue, red, green, purple, yellow, pink.
But I think if I had to pick a favorite, it would be blue. And if it's the shade of blue
like the ocean and sky, so much the better.

My living room is done in neutrals but has touches of bright blue...
turquoise, aqua. I recently painted the round mirror in the window
frame a beautiful blue.

I have other touches of blue in the living room ~ plates, candle holders,
lamps, and vases...

...pillows and plant holders.

Perhaps my love of turquoise and aqua started when I painted this wicker
chair a few years ago. At first I thought it was "too much". Now I love it.

I found the blue throw last year at HomeGoods. I think it adds the perfect
color and balance to the all the neutral going on in the couch, walls, rug,
ottomans, and pictures above the couch.

" Blue is the color of the sky and sea. It is often associated with depth and stability.
It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven.
Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body."

What is your favorite color? Do you show it in your home decor?

  1. Your house is so pretty. You really have an eye for color and style. It all looks beautiful.

  2. My favorite color is red. I have accents of red throughout the house. I used to like blue too, but I had so much blue and so did my mom and mother-in-law, and sister in- law...that I got a bit tired of it. Now I have that country blue mixed with white and red. So, I guess my house is in patriotic red, white and blue.....although I didn't plan it that way.

  3. Melanie, Your house is so warm and inviting. It always looks so clean. I want to come and live with you. My favorite color is green and I have lots of it here and there. I have a lot of earth tones in my accessories but I want to get some color going around here....since that seems to be what people are doing now. I wonder what accent color would go with my sage green living room furniture?

    1. Mediterranean colors look great with sage green...think brick or terra cotta. Also, small accents of a delicate yellow would look great with those two colors, too.

    1. Hmm, you may have to incorporate more of one of your favorite colors into your decor and see if it makes you smile!

  6. Love your touches of blue. I don't know if I have a favorite. I love the duck egg blue (ASCP) color and the deep pink. I have a lot of neutral but also lots of color.

    1. One good thing about having neutral furniture is that we can change our favorite colors at any time, right?

    1. Thank you, Julie! That was a Goodwill find a few years ago. It was brown and I simply spray-painted it.

  8. Hi Melanie, I love the chair that you painted. Blue is one of our favorite colors, too and I am going to be using quite a bit of it in our new (old) cottage bungalow. It's a very calming color and in this busy world we can all use a clam space :) We love being around water, swimming, sailing, fishing, or just gazing and since blue is a water color we love it. Another reason for decorating our new space with lots of blues, is because I already have them, from this house, LOL.
    Have a lovely weekend.

  15. Your blue touches look great in the neutral setting. That's what I love about neutrals. If you get tired of a color it's a simple matter of changing out a few accessories. Thank you for sharing at What We Accomplished Wednesdays. Have a great week! ~Deborah
