puttering around with living room decor

Funny how spaces look so sparse and boring when the Christmas decorations come down, don't they? Here's what I have going on in part of the living room right now. I like to play around with making different vignettes on tabletops and shelves.

I'm having a hard time with this cloche though. I like what I have in it so far...but it needs more. Any ideas? Maybe I should also tie a ribbon around the top of the cloche?

I've always loved the picture below with the girl in the winter scene. I picked this up at a resale shop a few years ago.

I bought this table last year at Goodwill for a few dollars. It is solid wood and love the curvature of the legs. I was going to sand it down and paint it last year, but ran out of time. In the meantime, I stashed the table in the basement. I came across it the other day and thought, "Why not use it as is for now; it'd look pretty in the living room with some plants on it."

  1. Love your vignettes. I like your cloche and what you have in it is pretty. If you don't want a ribbon, how about a little raffia tied around the top. Your table with the plants is so pretty. What a great find. Looking great. Hugs, Marty

  2. Melanie, I love that table. I am always trying to
find tables to put plants on because I don't have windows where the good light is. Nice job.

  5. I'm thinking raffia or a burlap ribbon tied on. Or the crafting twine would also be pretty. Maybe just add a pop or red???

Love your table with the plants on it.

  6. how about a filler in the bottom, beads, buttons, rafia, pinecones, berries, and I agree a bright ribbon or piece of torn raggy fabric or lace tied on the top. I love your new table. Don't you just love making your house pretty.

  7. What a great find that table was! I love those curvy legs. I also love how you've used the space below the windowsill to hang things. I think the bird on a pretty plate is enough under the cloche and a ribbon or something natural like burlap or twine would be a nice addition.

  9. I like the idea of the raffia ribbon around the top (in brown)... and then inside - a little bit of greenery - maybe with some red berries on it...

I love the picture of the girl! She reminds me of our Heidi in Holland...
