busy week and destressing

This is going to be quite the busy week, as I'm sure it will be for most of you. I went grocery shopping this morning at Trader Joe's and it actually wasn't that crowded. Otherwise, I have vet appointments, a Friendsgiving to attend, lunch with the in-laws, visiting my father-in-law in the nursing home, food to prepare for my mom's house on Thursday, and somehow finding time to meet with a friend who's going through a particularly hard time. Of course, this also includes keeping up with everything at home...all the homekeeping, laundry, making meals, spending hours online looking for a new/used SUV (time for a "new" vehicle for me!), rearranging things in the house to accommodate things that Tim has been bringing over to store...

My "baby" is moving to California on Friday! He has lived in our little town since the day he was born. He wants to go for new opportunities while he's young and single and childless. Like he said, if he doesn't do this now, he'll probably be kicking himself in the butt when he's older. He'll be moving in with his aunt ~ Brian's sister ~ in the Los Angeles area. So, at least he has a place to go and will have some family support. I am happy and excited for him, but honestly...my heart is breaking. We went to our favorite local restaurant and pub (they have the  best pizza!) the other night for the last time before he leaves. 💔

One thing that helps in this season of shortened days and extra stress is to get outside in nature. Brian and I went for a hike yesterday afternoon in the State Park and despite me needing to pee halfway through our hike (!!) and my feet being sore due to...who knows...probably a combination of something like metatarsalgia and improper footwear, the fresh air and exercise felt wonderful.

AUTUMN

The leaves are falling, falling as if from far up,
as if orchards were dying high in space,
Each leaf falls as if it were motioning "no".

And tonight the heavy earth is falling
away from all other stars in the loneliness.

We're all falling. This hand here is falling.
And look at the other one. It's in them all.

And yet there is Someone, whose hands
infinitely calm, holding up all this falling.

~ Ranier Maria Rilke

Happy Thanksgiving from my home to yours.
I am grateful for all of you.

  4. Wow, I can't believe Tim is moving to California - I'm so sorry, that's tough, Melanie!! My daughter has been living 4 hours away from me since college, and I don't see her nearly often enough....but California is even tougher! Sending hugs, my friend. xo

  5. Melanie, I know you will miss him so much. It will be a huge adjustment for you. I hope that this Thanksgiving Day will be wonderful. I bet you'll be cooking lots of Tim's favorite recipes. Best of luck to him in California! And you be sure and take extra good care of yourself, treat yourself to fun excursions out. You and Brian are so good about finding interesting places to see. And get you the footwear you need for those hikes!

  6. Happy Thanksgiving to you also dear Melanie. Being outdoors is also a destresser for me also.

What a wonderful opportunity for Tim, but sad for you. (((M&B))) as you deal with his leaving.

  8. Hi Melanie! Happy Thanksgiving!
I know that feeling from when our son went to college in Hawaii. I ached with missing. Now he is settled here again and I'm so grateful.
Pizza at a pub sounds delish!

  9. Happy Thanksgiving! Best of luck to your son with his move. It is so hard when they are so far away. We have been blessed to have my oldest home after he finished at Ohio State, that was just so far away when he was so young. Still I know both my boys made end up across the country and there is nothing I can do about it. Thank goodness Little B is only in second grade. I will sending you loads of hugs and support on Friday, it's okay to shed lots of tears my friend.

  10. Your photos at the state park are beautiful. I know that it was hard for you saying good-bye to your son, but it is absolutely wonderful that he will be staying with Brian's sister. That should provide a lot of comfort to you both. Children are suppose to grow up to be independent strong adults and it's a sign of having good parents when they do. So congratulations, you have raised him well and he's off to have an adventure. It gives you and Brian a chance for a vacation in sunny California, too.
My thoughts and prayers are with you, sweet friend.

  11. It is so hard to see our kids grow up and go off. I know that is what is supposed to happen but it is still very hard. You can cry all you want because life changes when that happens.

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving and following days. It is nice to touch base with you again- xo Diana
