for today ~ april edition

Looking out my window ~
It doesn't look much different than March. It was only 28 degrees this morning, and you can't see it in this photo, but my butterfly garden is to the left and covered in a thin layer of icy snow. More snow is on the way tonight - not much, thank goodness - but just enough to remind us that winter-like weather isn't over yet. In fact, as I'm writing this evening, I can see fat, fluffy snowflakes falling from the sky.

I am thinking ~
that I'm hungry for a bowl of the navy bean soup I made this evening. It's cooling down right now.

I am thankful ~
for friends that message me and ask if I want to go out for coffee.

One of my favorite things ~
Cookbooks. Love Soup is my newest acquisition. I bought it used on amazon.

I am creating ~
an art journal. Nothing fancy - I can't draw or paint, but I do some collages and journal prompts.

I am wearing ~
A long-sleeved black shirt, a purple hoodie, and gray yoga pants.

I am reading ~
An American Marriage by Tayari Jones. It's just "ok"; nothing exceptional. Next I will be reading Kristin Hannah's latest book. I'm grateful for my local libraries.

I am listening to ~
The Man Who Saved the World by Nirvana, though the song was actually written by David Bowie.

I am hoping ~
for warmer weather.

I am learning ~
to practice guided meditations. Two of my favorite apps are Insight Timer and Stop, Breathe & Think.

In my kitchen ~
I soaked the dried navy beans for the Navy Bean Soup overnight, started the soup in the late afternoon, and now it's cooling down. The house smells so good! I used the ham bone from our Easter ham. This weekend, I'll be making Trisha Yearwood's Linguine with Braised Red Wine Short Rib Sauce. I saw her making it on TV this past week and it looked so good, I just had to try it for myself.

Post Script ~
(Add a favorite link that you would like to pass along. It can be someone else's website, etsy shop, Instagram feed, Facebook link, OR it can be your own.)

I've been thinking about putting a hanging plant in the living room-kitchen pass-thru. I thought a macrame plant hanger with a wooden shelf would be cool - macrame is back in style (what's old is new again) and I think the texture of the macrame, wood, and greenery would be perfect for this empty space. There's a lot to choose from on etsy

Shared quote ~
Let the beauty we love be what we do. (Rumi)

A moment from my day ~
This morning, walking around my yard and filling the bird feeders. It was only 28 degrees, but with the sun shining and the sky so clear and blue, it was actually quite beautiful.

I'm going to dig into that delicious soup now.
Until next time, be well, be happy, be peaceful.

  3. Smiling because I've learned a couple of more things we have in common. I keep a very 'relaxed' art journal. Nothing fancy, and I'm not very artistic, but I enjoy it. And a friend loaned me a book this week called "8 Minute Meditation" -- something I'm interested in learning to do. I had the Insight Timer app at one time, so thank you for reminding me about that.

  4. That soup sounds delicious! You know, I didn't like the macrame hangers back in the seventies. But I'm taking to them more now, though I don't yet have one.

  5. I'm really enjoying having a macrame plant hanger in my kitchen. I planted my little philodendron in November and it's really growing! I should put it in a bigger pot soon. I have the Kristin Hannah book on hold at the library but it should be weeks, if not months, before I have my turn. I hardly ever buy books for myself, just get the from the library. It's a good thing I'm patient because new books take forever to get to me! Something to look forward to, right? :)

  6. The Man Who Saved The World is my all time favorite Nirvana song. I like their rendition best. Also, I wanted to thank you for the two minute meditation your shared a while ago. I do it all the time. Love it.

  7. I enjoyed the post and it was nice to see a "closer" look about who you are. We had soup for quite a few days since we had the flu. i didn't make Easter dinner until Wednesday. I love soup all year long. I like you are so hoping for warmer weather so I can get outside in my garden.

  8. Hi! This was such a cool post as it is my first visit here, but I feel like I know you a bit. Your outfit alone tells me you are a kindred spirit. And now I am a little disappointed that I gave our Easter ham bone to my mom to make soup (I hope she saved me some) šŸ˜€

  9. My husband's cousin in Jordan made me a macrame double plant hanger. I have it hanging from the curtain rod in the kids room but no plants in it as their room doesn't get much light. I have an old macrame book that a friend gave me many years ago but have never attempted to make anything from it. I probably should. I played around with macrame in the 70s and now it's all the rage again. I love soup and make it year round. Every year, every trip, I attempt to journal but never seem to keep up with it. :/ Sending warm wishes your way.

  10. Soup is the perfect meal for this kind of springter weather! I enjoyed reading your daybook entry, and I'm glad I searched you out, as we are friends on Instagram :) I made soup earlier this week, and we are finishing it off this weekend. I love how it makes the best leftovers. I hope your snow melts soon! Blessings :)

  13. I hope it is finally starting to warm up in your world. It finally is here. I feel like Rumi quotes have been following me around lately. I swear I'd never heard of him until a couple of months ago!
