vintage thrifting finds

From my thrifting haunts the past couple of months...

1950's Queen Anne (England) tea set ~ pattern is Caprice.

I think the curves and colors of the teapot are gorgeous.

I have a fondness for small vintage prints. This one is called Flemish School Flowers and is a silk print, handmade in Italy.

Even the back has pretty paper on it. Originally sold by Marshall Field & Co. I have such good memories of Marshall Fields. It's where I had my first job as a teen. It was my grandma's favorite store and she loved shopping there with me ~ especially since I had a discount!

A stack of Nancy Drew books ~ loved these as a kid! I still have a bunch of books from when my boys were growing up. I need to buy a small bookcase for the downstairs family room and fill it with just children's books.

Glass containers are great for storing leftovers (buh-bye to toxic plastic!), especially when they're vintage Pyrex dishes. I was thrilled to find this one with a lid in perfect condition.

A vintage magazine stand ~ thought it was even more charming with the decoupaged flower print on the front.

Have you found any thrifted vintage treasures lately?

  2. A few weeks ago we got several articles of clothing (including a beautiful winter coat) for the kids for 99 cents each at Goodwill. That's been my biggest score lately.
Garage sale season is starting again, though. There were a few this morning, but it was pouring rain, so I didn't go. Next week, I hope!

  3. Big scores, Mel! I am in awe of the print! I could see a group of these or a group in a small cozy place. You worked at Marshall Fields downtown? I used to look at it from my desk (and then run over there on my lunch hour-heaven!)

Loved Nancy Drew. My older sisters accumulated most of the earlier ones and I plowed through them. Then they outgrew them and I guess I never had that clout with my mom. Ha!

    It's getting sunny...hurray!

    Jane PS...love the teaset!

  6. What a neat old print. We don't have Marshall Fields anywhere around here- darn it! I, too, have several old Nancy Drew books- oh-my heart would beat so fast when I got a new one when I was a kid. Cute tea set, too. The pattern looks like it was in the 50s maybe? xo Diana

  9. You scored on all accounts. I miss Marshall Fields terribly-the quality, the class, the customer service with every purchase treated like it was the clerk's most important sale of the day, all wrapped in white tissue with the box and gold elastic band always free whether the item was 7.00 or 700.00. I'm right with you on all your finds, the Nancy Drew books, the 1940s Pyrex (This year is their 100th anniversary-a stellar American company.), the magazine rack with its charming decal.

  13. You always find such wonderful things! I wish I could. The thrift stores here tend to have really junky stuff, but I could try some of the antiques mall places. The last thing I bought that was really nice from a thrift store was a tea cup and saucer set that I'm going to give to my daughter's teacher for a gift in a few weeks when school ends. She collects them and (bravely) allows her students (Kindergarten through second grade) to use them during special tea parties every year in class. I figure that under these circumstances, it never hurts to have another set. :)

  16. That tea set is soooo lovely and I would have loved to find those old Nancy Drew books. I don't think I've ever read the stories, but I sure used to love watching The Hardy Boys on tv back in the 70's.

    Have a wonderful week... :)

  19. I love that tea set! So pretty and graceful with a slightly modern flair too. We could exchange Nancy Drew books, lol. I have a few here and do pick them up when I see them.
I went to an estate sale this morning. I found two embroidered His and Hers pillow cases meant for my guest/craft room, another old quilt which I bargained down to a lower price, a big blue pottery pitcher, and an old glass windex bottle....which was the big draw for me, for who knows what reason but I smile every time I realize it's mine. I also discovered a cousin, one who is as into genealogy as I am! That was coolest discovery of all, to find I was walking about a relative's home and picking up family treasure. Too neat!
