lighten up ~ changes in the living room

I know it's still 36 days until spring (yes, I'm counting) but I was getting kind of
tired of the heavy tabletop look in my entryway. I wanted to change out the dark
tray and bird and the thick, gold candlesticks.

I used the new thrifted basket and a couple of white candle holders
to lighten up the space. Sorry for the grainy photo - it's cloudy today.

I decided to change the vignette on the buffet in the living room, too, especially
after being inspired by Penny's miniature book cloche...

Here's my buffet before...you will notice I had pine cones and brown decorative
balls under the cloche.

And here's the buffet now with mini books under the cloche. I also traded the
gold clock for a gold and blue bowl, but I think I like the clock better.

Thanks for stopping by ~ it makes my day when you leave such lovely comments!

  2. Doesn't it feel good to make a few little changes - fresh and new.

I bought a mini cloche a month ago and have still not figured out where to use it. The places I want to use it are in danger of being bumped, and thus the cloche broken, because my kids like to chase the puppy around the house when they visit.

  3. I love the mini books!
We finally have sunshine today after so many days of gloom. And, it's not frigidly Arctic outside, so that's a bonus. Makes me ache for Spring, though.

    1. Glad you like the books, Tammy. Our weather has finally warmed up, too - 25 degrees today! Doesn't even feel cold compared to what we were used to.

  8. Melanie both areas look really cute. I love the blue vase with the feather in it!

The electricity came back on this morning - I don't think we lost any food we had a bag of ice in the fridge and the freezer stuff is still frozen solid.

    1. Believe it or not, that's not a feather - it's actually a prairie grass that I picked near the lake by my house last fall! I'm so glad your power went back on and that you didn't lose any food.

  11. I. Can. Not. Wait. For. SPRING! Maybe if we all change out our decor for spring it will come faster? Love the cloche with the little books, and the wire basket too! Thank you for sharing at What We Accomplished Wednesdays. Have a lovely weekend! ~Deborah

    1. If decorating for spring makes it come faster, then I'm starting January 1st from now on. ;-)

  12. Melanie,

Both versions are very sweet. I find that sometimes, simply the act of changing things up, whether the 'afters' are better than the 'befores', is mainly what makes both the space, and myself feel rejuvenated!

    Have a lovely week ahead!
