spring has been cancelled

Someone needs to tell Susan Branch that there is no sun, nor lovely grass in April. At least not in my neck of the woods.

This is what it looked like here yesterday.

Today isn't much better. Woke up to a couple of inches of snow, with high winds that were blowing gusts of that nasty white stuff past my windows. Looked like something straight out of a Christmas scene. I know my friends further north are rolling their eyeballs and saying, "Big deal!" They are buried. But still...ice, snow, cold gloomy skies, and temps in the 30's in mid-April is just ridiculous. Forget the song that never ends. This is the winter that never ends.

At least the inside of my house looks like spring, so I can pretend it's more like 60 degrees, which is the average temperature for this time of year.

Has spring truly arrived yet where you live?

  1. Oh my goodness! The photography in this post is amazing. I'm sorry that you are still having winter weather . . . our weather is colder than normal, but gladly not winter. You have made so many charming spring changes inside, too. This has been one of my favorites posts even :)

  2. Hi Mel.

I'm sure you didn't expect me here, but unlike the weather, my heart wants to thaw and be warm again.

I love your decor...the suitcase and the plates in the box (I forget what they were for!). Very cool.

I'm hoping it warms up soon. I have some damage to my grass from when they cut down my huge maple (it caused the public sidewalk to buckle). I want to plant a new, slow growing tree, and get that grass seed down.

Spring is about renewal. I hope we can discuss a few things and move on. I've always enjoyed our friendship, I guess I'm just confused.

Hoping we can move on at some point.

  3. Yikes! April is always an unstable time here. We had an electrical storm Sunday night with some rain, and then yesterday some dust and rain mixed with lots of thunder. And at the moment it's only 79 degrees outside which is great. I'm happy for the heat to hold off a while longer. Hopefully May will bring you much warmer weather.

  4. It looks more like Christmas NOW then at Christmas and that is soul-sucking.
We got to see green grass yesterday in Normal for two hours.
    It was nice.

  5. Looks like a good day to stay in and enjoy the lovely spring you have created in your comfy house. That little bird figurine in your last photo is so sweet. I hope it won't be too much longer before you will be seeing true signs of spring out your window and feeling the warmth of the sun. Here our spring flowers and trees are out in full force, although it has been a cooler than normal spring.

  6. Spring will come, it just seems to be taking its time this year. We are even a bit cooler than normal here in Florida. Have a great day.

  7. We never know what to expect in April, we even have the occasional snow in May. We've had a little snow this month, but nothing like what the rest of the country is going through. Your photos are just beautiful, Melanie, if that's any consolation!

  8. We are definitely in spring here, and have the ridiculously high winds and blowing dust to prove it. Not my favorite, but it's warm, at least. I'm sorry you're not having the spring you want, hopefully it's just around the corner.

  10. No spring here either. We are to get several inches of snow again tomorrow. At least most of the snow we got in the blizzard earlier is gone. At least I can enjoy your pictures and lovely decorating! Your posts are always a bright spot in the day.

  11. I MUCH prefer your inside to the outside!

Crazy weather here in PA as well. Went from winter temps straight to two days of hot summer temps ( with HUMIDITY!! ) then more rain and now snow showers all day today.

  12. Oh gosh! No spring here yet in Central New York! I am not usually a fan of spring because of the rain, but these high winds and cold temperatures are just adding insult to injury. Your post makes me feel hopeful though and like maybe I should get some fresh flowers!

  17. A few more days and we'll see more seasonable temps. None too soon - everyone is getting twitchy.
