photo gallery wall

My house is always a work-in-progress. I sometimes think we're the slowest people in the world for getting anything done. We've had some of Tim's black and white photography prints that we wanted to get matted and framed for years. I thought his room/the guest room would be the perfect place for them.

Since custom matting and framing is so expensive, I was looking for a cheaper alternative. I wasn't crazy about the frames at the typical places, plus they were more than I wanted to pay - about $25 each. Enter IKEA and their Ribba frames - $6.99 each. Now that was doable! (Later edit to add since I was asked: these IKEA Ribba frames also include the matting! The frame size is 12x16. Click HERE for the link.)

I hung the photos on the expanse of wall beside the bed. Fills up the empty space perfectly. Still don't have a headboard for this bed. (Nor do we have one for the master bedroom yet.) I know what I'm looking for, but haven't found just the "right" pieces. Or else, I've seen something I liked but wasn't willing to pay the asking price. Anyhoo, the photo on the lower right ~ the one with the birds flying over the trees ~ is actually my photo. Though Tim Photoshopped it for me.

I think this room is starting to look pretty good...

Just in time for Tim to move back in come August!

Linking up with Cozy Little House Tweak it Tuesday.

  3. Very cool, Melanie. I enlarged the photographs so I could see them better and they are good. The kitten with the newly opened eyes looking right into the camera is fascinating because it is such an intense and unwavering glare. Your photo of the geese resembling planes flying in formation from the old Glenview Naval Air Base is such a play on two similar shapes representing such different energies and the one with the monkeys I absolutely love. Tim's photograph of the face in the shadows could be on the issue of the Rolling Stone. Does that little kitten face belong to any of your full grown feline friends?

  5. It's a very nice room and I love how you matted and framed these photos.
Is that the banner I made? It's nice to see that you like it enough to add it to your room:) So sweet of you.
    Have a lovely weekend.

  6. I wish I could see some of these close up, Mel. The frames are beautiful and a great bargain. The matting---how did you do that and was it affordable? Alan bought some matted prints from a photographer in Tennessee in September. They are already matted and I've ben meaning to get them framed. I just heard Michael's is having a 70% off sale on framing...Yes!

Headboards are not cheap. It took me forever to pick one out that was somewhat affordable for Abby's room. I've heard of taking a large piece of plywood that fits the width of the bed and goes just down to where the mattress is, and attaching padding and fabric with a staple gun. The attache to the wall. I've thought of that for the 6 beds we have a the lake. Iron is also a little less expensive. I bet Overstock, Amazon and Wayfair have some reasonable prices.

  11. Those photos look great in Tim's room! Yeah, I'm sure it won't be that neat and tidy when he comes back, though, if he's anything like my two!!

  12. The room looks great. I think it will be a very nice room for a young man. I like the black frames. I have black framed photos and art in my living room. I really like the spare, simple look of them.

  19. Will Tim be back for good, or just for the summer? I'm assuming he'll want to put his own touches in the room, even though it looks great already!
