first snow of the season

The white stuff started last night and kept falling 'til early this afternoon. Nothing like starting with a bang ~ our area got about a foot of snow. And it's wet and heavy: heart attack snow.
This is my front porch. Looks like big, puffy pillows, doesn't it?

Don't think we'll be grilling or using the patio furniture tonight.

The branches from our neighbor's tree are so heavy with snow, they're almost touching our patio. I noticed cracks in some of the heavier limbs.

Top of my birdbath!

The backyard (with my footprints all over).

To add insult to injury, it's going down to 8 degrees tonight. Technically, it's still fall. Hard to keep that in mind with this kind of weather.

I don't think this snow will stick around too long though. It's supposed to be 50 degrees and raining on Thursday - Thanksgiving. At least we don't have to shovel rain, right?

  1. Such pretty pictures. I love the snow but do not want it because I have horses, so it is hard work.

  6. Yeah, it can be a pain. But it's so beautiful! Some of my favorite days last winter was sitting in my living space looking out at the snow falling on the patio.

  7. That really makes for some beautiful pictures. We were supposed to get about 5 or 6" today but the storm stopped about 70 miles south of us and we didn't get so much as a flake. Works for me. Once we get snow here it is here until April. NOT ready...but then, I never am. lol xo Diana

  8. I love your snow. It's beautiful! I would love to see snow again. It actually snowed here on Christmas Eve in 2004. We were so excited. It's going down in the 40's tonight and we're thrilled. It will finally feel like fall to us.

  10. Oh, I just love the magic of the first real snowfall! Of course, I'm not the one shoveling, so I may have a different point of view. Your photos are gorgeous!

We have just a light dusting of snow, but the temps are hovering at around 20, so it's here to stay.

  11. Fabulous first snow of the season pix Mel - just came a bit early though! Hopefully travel for Thanksgiving will not be jeopardized by dangerous road conditions - and everyone can celebrate in the warmth of the hearth as they eat all those yummy holiday offerings.

Watch out when shoveling - always hard on the back!

Hugs, and happy holiday - Mary

  14. It is lovely, and even more so because it is there and not here. We got a few round snow pellets from the sky, and that's it. Our other two snows were gone within hours of falling, leaving it wet and muddy. Ugh.

  15. WOW! That makes me feel cold. Cooler temps are finally coming to s.e. FL and I am excited about that.

Have a lovely Thanksgiving week, even with the early snow.

  17. I find it easy to enjoy the first snow, at least in looks. It's always so picturesque at this point. We only had a few flakes in the air the next day, but it got plenty cold. Guess I'll have to wait for my own first snow!

  18. I love these pictures! Our first snow was heavy, too, but melted in a couple days. We are supposed to get a couple inches tomorrow. I rarely tire of it. Happy Thanksgiving, Melanie!
