weekend chat

Hi everyone ~ what are your plans for this weekend? I started my day off with an
early morning yoga class and a couple of errands. Tonight is mine and Brian's usual
Friday night date night. We're going out to dinner, but don't know where yet.
We want to try something new instead of sticking with the usual mexican restaurant
we frequent. Tomorrow I was going to see the movie, August: Osage County with
a friend, but now we're under another winter storm warning. They're saying that
we're to get 6-10" of snow. Waah! We still have a lot left on the ground from all
the previous snowfalls. It's already piled up around my little front porch. Brian
has to work tomorrow, so I always worry about him driving home in a snowstorm.

And then how about the Super Bowl? Are you going to watch it?
Brian's a football fan, but I'm not. So I'll make up some yummy snacks and
I'll sit in front of the TV with Brian, but I'll be on my laptop or reading instead
of watching the game. I love the commercials though, and am looking forward
to the halftime show: Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Speaking of Superbowl snacks, one that I'm making is Ree Drummond's
(AKA, The Pioneer Woman) Black-Eyed Pea Dip. I've made it before and
it's delicious. I'm also making tortilla roll-ups with cream cheese, green chilies,
a little salsa, shredded cheese, and Mexican seasonings.

What are your weekend plans? Hopefully, they don't involve snow.

  1. I plan on getting at least one Valentine's project done! I won't be watching superbowl game because I will be working on that Valentine project :-]. I start every morning doing yoga its a great way to start the day, today we headed out to grocery shop to prepare for all the snow that's coming our way. Enjoy your date night, and be safe.

    1. I hope you post about your Valentine's project on your blog! I agree that yoga is a great way to start the day - along with coffee. ;-)

  2. Hi Melanie - that movie was filmed here in Oklahoma less than an hour from Tulsa. Real close to Pioneer Woman's home. Bit of trivia! We have cold but no snow yet. It's suppose to start snowing tomorrow night. Am so tired of this. However, Galveston has ice and cold temps! So, I guess we weren't suppose to get down there. That helped a little bit. LOL

Have a safe and warm weekend!

    1. I didn't realize that movie was filmed to close to you. You're right, I think it'd make it worse about not being able to go to Galveston if it were sunny and warm there!

  3. More snow or ice or sleet is headed here. They don't know for sure because we are in the cross hairs or something. (Oh). As long as you get started home as soon as it starts or before you should be okay......unless you live in Ga. and you don't.
Not many plans here. Just getting over a tummy virus. Maybe some valentines. Have fun.

  4. Hey, sweetie. Sleep escapes again! This weather is something. I heard on the Chicago weather report tonight that we have had 43 inches of snow total this winter! Wow. Honestly, I don't mind the snow as much as the cold. I am worried...so far no snow here and I am checking every five minutes!!! We are going downtown tomorrow for my birthday and even though it's only about 25-30 minutes, I worry. Ice is supposed to be south of us. Anyway, it will be sort of pretty there.

Glad you are keeping busy.. Will catch up when we get back....stay warm, dry and safe.

    Xo,
    Jane

  5. MORE snow?! But then again, it IS winter! If you don't get it now, when are you supposed to get it, in the spring? Now THAT, would be depressing. I remember growing up in Toronto, we'd get snow even in April, which was not appreciated by the tulips!

Your Superbowl snacks sound very tasty. Have a great time with your hubby and enjoy the weekend, Melanie!

    1. We've had snow in April and it's NOT a welcome site. I don't even like it into March!

  6. On this round we are ( thus FAR, though it could change ) to get a round of rain and snow versus all snow. 10 inches is a major snowfall / I hope that you are spared and get less!

Don't pay much attention to football unless the Steelers are doing well and of course this year no SB for them so I don't care too much at that point. I loved when my boys were in midget football and middle school football but other than that it is not as big a deal to me as it is to many others / have a good weekend ! :)

    1. We were indeed spared on that 10" of snow. We only got about 4". Whew. I don't pay much attention to football either - unless it's the Bears and they're winning. Yeah, I'm one of those fair weather fans.

  7. Sounds like a lovely weekend. I am sick but still going to work(will have to wear a stupid mask) and we are under a snow storm warning...ugh! However, I get to work with my favourite co-worker whom I rarely work with and I will stop for coffee on the way. My son and husband are off to my sons hockey game and like you I worry about them driving there. I trust God to protect us all though :)

That dip looks good! Enjoy your weekend.

  10. This afternoon was spent with my 9 year-old niece, learning to make those rubberband bracelets. I don't get to see those kids too often any more, so it was special to have her ask for a craft date.
Tomorrow I want to do some cooking and work in the playroom getting ready for the week to come. I will watch the Super Bowl, but will read or crochet while that happens. Snack foods for supper will include poppers, meatballs (made those today with Grace, too), pigs in a blanket, veggies, and chips and dip. Nothing too strenuous, and I can make just a few of each thing since it'll be just Greg and me here.
We had a bit of snow over the past couple of days, and a bit more in the forecast, but nothing like you've gotten. Last year we had snow in May. Ugh. NOT the norm for us, and it was not appreciated.

    1. I know those rubberband bracelets are the hot, new thing with kids. How did you like doing it with your niece? Snow in May...ugh, how awful.

  11. I'm just catching up with blogs but I hope you're having a good weekend. Yikes, more snow! Crazy! I hope it wasn't as bad as expected. We will watch the Super Bowl, it's basically the only sports we watch all year, ha. I'm making Buffalo wings and pizza-biscuit-roll things. I baked red velvet cupcakes (Duncan Hines mix) yesterday. I look forward to junk food and commercials. :)

    1. Junk food and commercials - ha! I love it. Though the commercials weren't as good this year, don't you think?

  12. We moved from NJ to Atlanta to get away from all that snow! I'm not a winter person :) We always just watch that last 1/2 hour or so of the game. I'm from Seattle so you know who I'm rooting for!

    1. Too late for us to move now - my husband can't leave his job of 25+ years! Maybe when he retires?
