new stuff and extreme winter weather

I've found some great stuff at Goodwill lately ~ and the bonus is that I had a 30%
off coupon for most of the items!

A pretty scarf in the $1.49 bin ~

A brass candleholder, a vintage honey bottle, silver tealight holders ~

 An aqua Pyrex bowl ~

These cool decorations from Target (are they bookends? That's what I'm going
to use them for) that still had the original price tags on them ~

Cute tin rooster - another brand-new item with the original Pier 1 Imports
price tag on it ~

A tall, wooden Santa that was 50% off ~

I also ran into Barnes and Noble today as all their 2014 calendars, planners,
and Christmas cards are now 50% off. I didn't need any cards since I only sent
out a few this year and still have plenty left, but I always buy a new planner
for the year and a calendar (this year it was the Chicago Cubs) for Brian.
But then I saw these little note cards and was smitten. I have this this thing
for pretty note cards and you all know how much I love owls. I was thinking
that they wouldn't necessarily have to be used for writing little notes. I could
also use them on a homemade card, in scrapbooking, or even put in a little
frame for a decoration.

We had a ton more snow come down the past couple of days. I swear, it
didn't stop for 48 hours straight. Good thing it was a light, powdery snow. My
back can't handle shoveling the wet, heavy stuff.

Now the bitter cold is setting in. It was -13F when I got up this morning. The
high temp on Monday is forecasted to be -16F. How's the weather in your area?
Go ahead, those of you in wonderful, warm climates - rub it in!

  1. I love your finds. The tall skinny Santa and the bookends are wonderful.

I actually do a "no buying month" each January so I haven't been to any stores. I don't know if I will be able to keep to my plan with my daughter living so close. She loves to shop.

    1. Uh oh, you're in trouble! ;-) I don't feel guilty shopping when it's not much money spent at Goodwill or on clearance items!

  2. Well, it isn't that cold, thank goodness! I'm getting ready to purge stuff. I get the purging bug every January. You got some cute stuff.

    1. I've been purging a lot, too. I brought a bag of clothes to Goodwill and have 7 more bags of household stuff that Purple Hearts is picking up next week.

  4. We'll be slightly warmer here on Monday, but windchills are forecast to be -30 to -40. Ugh. We don't have the snow, either.
It's been quite some time since I've been thrift shopping. January will be for decluttering the house and getting rid of things, but I have a running list of things to look for when garage sale season starts back up! LOL.

    1. Sorry to hear you have the bitter cold weather, too. I'll send you some of the snow if you really want some. ;-) I've been decluttering my basement and going through paperwork in my office.

  5. fun stuff, and you know I like your Pyrex. Pyrex is pretty and is also really nice to use for mixing, cooking and storing.
I've seen your brutal weather on the news, it is cold here too, but not as cold as you and no snow for now. There are still about 70 days of winter left, brrr!

    1. I love Pyrex and the aqua blue is my favorite color, so I was thrilled when I found that bowl for $1.99 - minus 30% off! Seventy more days of winter...oy! Hurry, spring!

  6. You find the best things at Goodwill, I'm truly jealous (but really happy for you!) :) I love the Pyrex especially, it's gorgeous. Stay warm, that cold sounded brutal when I read about it in the news tonight.

    1. If I look on the bright side (which I try to do), I am blessed to have a husband that is physically able and willing to shovel and that I have a warm home to live in!

  8. Okay, minus anything - when talking about the temperature - is a very bad thing. I get so uncomfortable in the cold weather. It is going to 63 today but then tomorrow the high will be 37! We are having crazy weather in Dallas. I love your owl cards and I agree - so many ways to use them. Great finds!

  9. Nice scores on your finds! I like the cards. I didn't buy cards last year and ended up receiving a lot of nice cards from various charities. I had leftovers even after sending out a good many to family! That was unexpected but nice.

    1. Interesting - I don't receive Christmas cards from charities; just address labels!

  11. It's beyond cold here in MN too! The Governor even closed school on Monday because of the record lows. I'll be doing my best to stay at home as much as possible. Looks like you had a great day thrifting. I love the candle holders and the scarf is so pretty.

    1. Schools and even some businesses are already closed for tomorrow here, too. I'm definitely not venturing out of the house until Wednesday when it will finally be 14F - a heat wave! ;-)

  12. Happy New Year, Melanie!

You always manage to find real treasures on your hunt for unique gems! The Pyrex bowl is adorable; love the colour, reminds me of spring and happy moments. Okay, I do admit that living in a Mediterranean climate has its benefits, especially when it's -22°F in Toronto right now. But, believe it or not, I hope to be freezing my butt off in about two weeks or so, just in time to celebrate my mom's 70th birthday with my beloved daughter and family!!

Stay warm and keep sipping on all those delicious soups you whip up!

You have some great finds there.
My personal favorite is the Pyrex! I love Pyrex and have my own collection on displayed but use them every day!
Were not as cold as you but woke to 12* F this morning . Cold enough for this Texas girl!
