living room rearranging

Whew, it's a hot one out there! In the 90's, humid, and not a speck of a breeze.
Thank God for air-conditioning, that's all I can say.

I moved some things around in my living room, kitchen, and office, so today
I thought I'd show you the living room. See the tall fabric floor lamp in the corner?
I moved that there from the downstairs family room. I think that corner
needed some height. I had an antique dark brown table there before that just
faded into the background. I like mixing modern with antiques; keeps things
interesting. I also think a comfy afghan and a sleepy kitty (that'd be Zippo) add
to the ambiance of the room.

On the floor by the lamp, I placed the vintage suitcases that used to be
on the other side of the room.

I moved the little black chair from the fireplace area and placed it
by the coffee table for additional seating - something that's sorely lacking
in this room due to space.

I re-did the buffet arrangement, too. That tray is the top part of my butler's table ~
which has been moved to the kitchen. "Someday" that tray is going to be painted.

I moved the blue wicker chair from the main seating area and put it by the
window, along with a black table from the downstairs family room. You might
remember that the butler's table - which was topped with plants - was in front
of the window before. The ottoman over by the ladder bookcase was where the
vintage suitcases were before.

Looking into the living room from the kitchen...

I'll show you the kitchen and office/TV room/spare room/craft room (geez, I
need to make an official name for this room! Here at home, we still call
it "Phil's room".) in the next few days. Until then, stay cool! I'm off to eat
a bowl of homemade gazpacho for a late lunch now.

  1. Looks awfully nice, Melanie! Good job. It's fun to move things around isn't it?

  2. Looks like you had fun. My husband always said, "I see you cleaned today," after I moved furniture around. Now most of my furniture is so heavy...I can't move it. Probably good at my age to have it so.
    Keep cool, Balisha

    1. I'm careful with moving furniture since I have herniated disks in my back, but I'm determined!

  3. I like this new arrangement, Mel. The lamp is pretty and I love the pictures above your sofa. I have never switched furniture from room to room...not sure why. I feel like I'm stealing! lol!

Hope you are surviving this heat!

    Jane

    1. The pictures above the sofa are from IKEA. I love switching furniture around, even from room to room. Gives you a whole new perspective and look! I learned that trick from two design professional friends, one of whom is now an older woman that used to work for a furniture store. It's "shopping the house". :-)

  4. So pretty how the Sun comes through your front door and brings such lovely light to your living room. Such pretty changes for the Summer months!
    Happy Friday and happy hugs,

    1. I wish I could find some more vintage suitcases...but at a reasonable price!
