almost thanksgiving already

Hi friends, sorry I've been missing for awhile again. I'm reconsidering the whole blogging thing. Either I just can't get into it and don't feel like writing a post, or life gets too busy. I can understand why a lot of bloggers have given up and just post on Instagram. It's much easier to post snippets of your life there.

One good thing since I last posted was that our son, Tim was home for a visit at the end of October. We hadn't seen him in a year! One of the things we did was to go to the Art Institute of Chicago. I hadn't been there in many years. What a fabulous museum and exhibits! We spent about four hours there ~ and I'd love to go back and do it all over again.

It is freezing here this weekend. Highs in the 20's during the day and down into the single digits - teens at night. Too early for this nonsense. It'll rebound back into the 30's and 40's next week, so...yay? (I need to be a Snowbird.)

I'm one of those who don't decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving. I like to celebrate one holiday at a time. I think it's a little strange to be sitting around the table eating turkey and stuffing and pumpkin pie with a Christmas tree glowing in the background and Santa staring you in the face. ๐Ÿคท But ~ you do you! Whatever makes you happy.

So in my house, you will still see fall colors and decor.

I get a teeny bit in the Christmas decorating mood when I go into one of my favorite shops and seeing all the cute decor.

Almost purchased this cutie (loved the vintage necklace most of all!)...and my friend who was with me was "encouraging" me to buy it. I passed and bought just a couple of smaller, less expensive items.

My little love, Clementine is still with us. I thought for sure this past Monday that this was going to be her last week with us on earth. She had thrown up several times in the middle of the night, wasn't eating, and had weak back legs. Tuesday she rebounded and she's back to eating, though she's more dehydrated than ever and sleeping more than usual. It's so heartbreaking to see your fur baby decline and know the end is near.

Just a little bit of blog keeping...I've noticed that in the past few months, I've had more "Anonymous" comments than usual. I didn't know why this was happening until I saw a post by my friend, Kris at Junk Chic Cottage about it. It's a little confusing to me; something about third party cookies. (All I understand is cookies.) Kris shared a link to Linda, AKA The Fairy Blogmother's personal blog, where Linda explains how to fix Anonymous comments here. Sooo...if you are an Anonymous commenter, check out the link to see how to fix this.

To those of you in the States, hope your Thanksgiving is filled with love, family and/or friends, and good food ~ all to warm your heart and home.

  2. Hi Melanie. I hope the link to Linda and I will help anyone with opening up their browser they use to cookies so they can comment. So stupid how they set these things up so we can all have a headache figuring it out. It is a pretty easy fix just have to read how to do it. I am glad you are a hold out for Christmas decor. I just am not!!!! I am working on my tree and decor today and tomorrow. We have Friendsgiving at my daughters later today so I will have to take a break here soon. Have a good weekend. xoxo Kris

  3. Hi Melanie. So glad that you had a visit from your son. We already have our tree up. I am an early decorator, but I have downsized my decorating quite a bit. I am glad to hear that Clementine is hanging on. I hope you have a very nice Thanksgiving.

  4. The museum visit sounds wonderful, and how great to share the time with Tim. I'm with you on celebrating one thing at a time. I love Thanksgiving, so my Christmas decor goes up next weekend.

I so get how you're on the fence about blogging. I get that way a lot. If I could offer this . . . I love how you update your blog and fill us in, even if it's once a month. It seems like a good way to keep a journal of sorts. I publish select blog posts in a little book every so often, and I love reading back on what my life was like at different times. I do keep a handwritten journal, but blogging makes me be more intentional. Just my two cents. Because I would miss your blog!! but, I get it;)

  5. I think you'll have to take me to that little shop with the Santas. I believe that's the one you visit regularly?
I can see how you may get out of a blogging routine. I've deviated from my Instagram routine. Isn't that funny? We are totally opposite!
But it was nice to see your post in my Feedly this morning. ❤️

Happy Thanksgiving to you and Brian. ๐Ÿ˜˜

  6. What a stately building the art institute is! It's so nice that the visit is something you three shared together. I'm torn each year about when to decorate for Christmas because I do love my fall decor so much. But last year I waited until after Thanksgiving and realized it took up far to much time in December when I wanted to be baking and wrapping presents and out and about. I determined then to begin the first week in November this year, packing everything else away except true Thanksgiving things. That didn't happen (I'll fill you in on an email later as to why) so we've had Christmas boxes sitting everywhere waiting to be opened. Fall has been packed away and two trees are up but only lights on them so far. The best laid plans go you know what.
You know my constant struggle to keep current in blogging and I appreciate the good instructions you sent me for posting on Instagram, will have to try it out some day. But I realized, and my husband too, that some of the joy goes out of my life if I'm away from blogging too long.
Melanie, my heart aches for you as you hurt for Clementine's struggles with kidney disease. I know you are treasuring every day, every moment with her and I'm so glad that Tim got to come home for a good visit with her too, as well as his momma and dad. I think I'm a little bit in love with her too, every time I see her pretty little face in your pictures. She is simply beautiful!
    God bless her and you,
    Dewena
