needing green

It's still cold and yucky here.  Dark and rainy all day. It's my only day at home this week, so the only time I ventured outside was to get the mail. I was surprised to be greeted by flowers on the vinca. A bright spot in an otherwise miserable day. Maybe the poor vinca doesn't know that there's still a 50% chance of snow showers on Friday?

As usual at this time of the year, I am itching to play in the dirt ~ especially when I am seeing the most beautiful garden photos from my blogger friends who live in warmer climates. Since outdoor gardening isn't possible for me right now, I get a little bit of planting satisfaction by going with houseplants or succulents. My mom called me the other day from her local nursery and said they had little succulents on sale. She asked if I wanted some.

Of course!

I spent the day with Mom yesterday, picked up my succulents, and got them planted today.

Here's my mom's succulents on her dining room table.

We'll take our greenery anyway we can get it.
Happy spring!

  1. Oh I love that little deer planter!

We have green here...even though we go back and forth from rain to snow the entire neighborhood's grass is crayon box green. Mine's so thick that I pulled a leg muscle trying to get the reel mower through a sloping area the other day / told my son he's going to have to mow for me with his gas mower the next time. ( he also has to fix MY gas mower ) But more rain and snow are in the forecast !!

  2. I've been wondering if succulents will work on my fairly dark front porch this summer. I'm thinking if you grow them inside, they may work on the porch, too. What do you think?

  3. I love your little deer planter! How sweet. Nice of your mom to pick up the plants for you. Her table arrangement looks very nice. I hope your weather picks up soon and spring really arrives!

  5. It is so annoying when the weather is all up and down isn't it, hopefully it will settle soon. Your succulents look so lovely all potted up and definitely provide a lovely splash of green! xx

  8. You and me both, Melanie! I went off the mountain yesterday and the vinca was blooming all over the place....as were the daffodils, although they were hanging their little yellow heads.

  9. Vinca Minor can easily bloom through frost...the weather has been crazy crazy. Sun, rain, sleet, snow, hail and cloudy all in one day! Everything blooming is thinking should I go back in or stay out? Probably as confused as we are.

  10. I adore this sweet deer planter! She makes me smile.
I have become smitten with succulents and they are almost like weeds once they get going, especially if they have room to really spread out.
I hope you have some good weather this week, Melanie.
