Thank you for all your support and kind words on my last post. When you're in the thick
of yucky things in life, you go into a doom-and-gloom-panicky mode, right? I know we've
all been there for different kinds of reasons. The good news is: our water and well issues
seem okay now. The bad news is: the owner of the well company never called us back,
even after leaving numerous messages. Great customer service! We will keep trying. We
still have a few questions. And my dentist appointment where I got the first part of my crown
went...well, I don't want to say fine, because it certainly wasn't pleasant while I was there
and in the middle of it. But at least I like this dentist and he is understanding about
my nervousness. He gives me little breaks and told me to raise my hand if I was feeling
uncomfortable. This is my fourth crown. I've earned queen status by now, don't ya think?
I go back in three weeks to put the permanent crown in and to get more Novocaine on the
other side to attempt to remove a cavity underneath another crown.

On to more pleasant things...I was the winner in Connie from Crafty Home Cottage's
giveaway! Connie is not only a sweet, friendly woman ~ she is also artistic and does all
kind of crafts and needlework. Connie sent me a red and white dish towel with the
cutest stitched house and heart. The bottom is trimmed in red and white rick rack. The colors
go perfectly in my kitchen and the little house reminds me of Comfy House.

There was also a matching quilted and stitched pot holder which I have hanging on
the side of my fridge. (Hello, old family photos.)

Connie also sent me this beautiful red and white banner. Each little pennant
has a stitched heart. Adorable! I wanted to hang this in my kitchen, but the only
possible place would be my china hutch and it's too narrow.

So I ended up hanging it on the wall above Tim's bed/the guest bed.

The sun is shining brightly here today but it is bitter cold. It was -5F when I woke up
this morning. I think this cold weather calls for some baking and cooking, so I'm off
now to make a dairy-free apple cake for Saturday. My mom and aunt are coming to
my house on Saturday - we're going to have a card-making day - and they're both
lactose intolerant. I thought it'd be nice to have a little treat with our coffee. And
tonight's dinner will be stuffed manicotti, so that will take some prep work, too.
Happy Thursday, everyone.

  6. I really hope those well problems are almost solved...and the dentist...you did GOOD!

What a neat giveaway you won. The little houses are precious, and yes, they mean Comfy House!! The best gits are handmade.

Your day sounds great...baking and cooking. Today was my day to brave the cold. I hear we are to get up to 30 tomorrow. Bikini weather! :)

  7. How fun to win all those items Melanie. It is like having Christmas once again in January. What cute things she made for you.

I too have a fear of dentists so I just don't go. I have to be in total pain to go. Glad to hear things are almost done and then you will hopefully not have to go again for a while. Your water problems are not sounding fun. We have a problem with damp at our front door and that alone is a pain without having well problems. Is the cold weather causing the problems?

    Hugs from Holland,
    Heidi

    1. Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear you don't go to the dentist. No, the cold weather doesn't have anything to do with the well problems. And things seem to be fine for now - yay!

  9. Hello again. You know, I had to Google pescetarian because I had never heard of that before. You're right, that's currently what I am because I have been eating seafood. It's funny because I always thought a vegetarian just didn't eat the land animals... chicken, pork, beef... etc. Also, I do love beans and sometimes for lunch I have one of those Amy's frozen vegetarian bean burritos. They are delicious... :)

    1. I've never had one of those. I try to avoid frozen meals because of the excessive sodium. Though I know Amy's is an organic line, so their food is better than the conventional stuff.

  11. Hi Melanie,
I hope you al are having a nice card making party, it sounds like fun except for the snow and temps.
Your Chicago area weather is on the news everyday and I always think of you when I see it.

Your new red accessories and yellow LaCrueset are so cheerful in the sunshine. I hope your snow goes away soon and you have an early spring.

    1. Well, at least crafting is a great indoor activity to do when it's so cold outside, right? On Saturday, our temp actually got up to 42 (a heat wave!), so a little bit of the snow melted. Back to very cold temps this week.

  12. So glad to hear that your water worries are less, at this time, Melanie, and how happy you must be to be free (for a while, anyway), of those dreadful but necessary dentist appointments. Your giveaway goodies are very pretty, and look really nice in your home. How lovey and cozy that card making session sounds, with your mom and aunt, and how thoughtful of you to bake up that cake, just for them!

    Happy weekend! Stay warm!

  13. Hi Melanie, wow, thank you for the shout-out . . . I am delighted that you like your gifts and that they went with your home, so well. I had a crown this last year on one of my back teeth. The tooth never gave me any trouble until I got the crown. That lasted for maybe three months, but now everything is fine . . . I was a bit worried there for a while:) I'm happy to hear that your well problems are better . . . we all deserve good water.
    Have a happy day.
    Connie :)

    1. I'm glad you found my comments! I'm so glad I "found" you and your blog again after such a long time. You are so kind to say my kitchen is gorgeous...it's outdated and I'm not handy with re-doing things myself (such as painting cabinets), so I just try to fluff it up as best as possible. ;-)

  16. If you'd care to publish the name of your well company, I'd love to send them an email on your behalf asking them to contact you and follow up with their customer service and fixing what they clearly broke. Maybe all your other followers would like to also. :)
