hopping down the bunny trail

I don't decorate much for Easter now that I don't have little ones at home, but I still
enjoy putting Easter touches in my kitchen. I put some of my favorite bunnies and
vintage egg cups in the china cabinet...

and placed some more bunny items on a shelf next to the china cabinet.
The egg cup on this shelf is a new one from World Market. The other bunnies
and even the miniature teapot were all thrifted in past years.

I keep my kitchen table very simple on an everyday basis due to curious kitties.
If I so much as put a tablecloth on the table or any elaborate place settings,
they must check it out and jump up on the table. So, I won't make a really pretty
tablescape until the last minute on Easter Sunday.

Easter dinner will be small and cozy ~ me, Brian and Tim ~ and my mom and cousin.
I'm picking up a nitrate-free ham at Trader Joes this week and I'll also make
marinated asparagus and a fruit salad. My mom is making hot cross buns and
potato salad, and  my cousin is bringing glazed carrots and an apple pie. I'm also going
to make a pitcher of strawberry-peach sangria.

In other news, I started physical therapy again today for my shoulder. The MRI
last week showed I have a partial tear in my rotator cuff. I'm perfecting the art
of one-armed yoga and at least I can still exercise by walking and biking. I got a
"new" bike last night from a private seller in my town. It's a Schwinn Traverse and
was hardly used. All it needs is new inner tubes in the tires. Little bits of work continue
in the yard as weather permits (we had some warm weather, but then rain moved in
and umm...it's now currently snowing!) and in the guest room, too.

Happy Monday, Happy Passover, Happy Easter.

  1. Your bunnies are cute and I only put out my assortment of bunnies this year too. Great minds think alike, as usual :)
We had thick fluffy snowfall today but it melted on the warm earth,

    Hope your PT helps.

    1. Our snow stuck around for a couple of days, finally gone today. I hope the PT helps, too!

  2. Snow again, egads! We had little spurts of drizzle about 5 times today. All of Spring Break so far has been fairly hazy but that's fine by me as I've enjoyed my time at home and still am able to walk. Love that little golden tin bird with candle. Very cute. Easter was always a big affair when I was growing up. Always at my Mammaw's house or Aunt Betty's -- she made the best potato salad ever! Hope your shoulder gets better soon. I'm still having problems with my heel but it is usually when I first get up. I know of others who have gone for physical therapy, but seriously how many things can you do for your heel? I bought new walking shoes and wear cushiony flip flops around the house and that helps. Otherwise, it just takes time to heal. And the older we get, the longer it takes. :) Have a great week. Tammy

    1. It's actually not uncommon for us to get a dusting of snow in April, but at least it only lasts a couple of days. Easter was always a big family affair when I was growing up, too. Don't these injuries stink as we get older? I hope you're on you're way to healing soon, too!

  3. I hope that your shoulder gets better soon and that you can keep going in the meantime, at least now you know what the situation is you can manage it better (well I hope!). Your Easter decorations are lovely! I hope that you have a great family meal, it sounds lovely!! xx

  4. I don't do much Easter decorating either, Melanie - probably for much the same reason you stated (in our case Baby - in your case Monkey!). It is kind of weird being in the girls' old rooms, but my oldest (29 years) still has her bed in my new office until we put hardwood floors into the smaller bedroom. Then that will become the guest room where she will sleep when she comes home from the city for visits. Our youngest, 25, lives just the next town over so she never needs a place to stay. The office I'm just now moving into was actually my office back before either of my girls were born, so it's kind of like going full circle! Happy Easter to you - we're having a small group as well, just me, hubby, my sister, our two girls and one boyfriend! haha

    1. That is so interesting that your new office is actually your original one! I like how that went full circle. Enjoy your Easter!

  5. Your Easter dinner plans sound very nice. I hope your shoulder is all healed soon, it sounds really painful. I love your Easter decor! I don't decorate much for Easter; I used to have a few things but we downsized a few years ago when we moved from another state and I let go of a lot of that kind of stuff. Our house there was too big for us and I think I compensated by filling all the rooms with stuff. :) I love the egg cup. You reminded me that I haven't been to World Market since Christmas! I have to get back there soon. :)

    1. You're right, my shoulder injury is pretty darn painful. I'm trying to keep the pain under control with a natural pain and inflammation reliever (turmeric capsules), Bio-Freeze spray, and icing it. World Market is a great store to browse in...so many cool things.

  6. Hi Melanie,

Your Easter gathering sounds lovely! Isn't it so much fun when everyone contributes a dish or two? This way, there's always a wonderful surprise for the cooks, and an appreciation for less prep by all. Glad to hear that Trader Joe's is offering nitrate-free hams; just too much processed products on the shelves. We're fasting this week, which means no eggs, meat or dairy, so there's plenty of vegetarian fare on the table, after we've spent a few hours trying to please all the meat lovers in the house!

Hope your shoulder is feeling better. The physio should help alleviate some of your pain. The discomfort I was feeling for a few weeks after my flight has subsided slightly. I find that after an afternoon of trying on clothes when shopping aggravates it all over again!

Wishing you a joyful Easter and a lovely week! I can totally relate re: the snow...we're expecting two to four inches tomorrow, along with freezing rain! In the meantime, it's supposed to be 65 and sunny, back home, on the island!

    1. Our family has always helped out the hostess with food...side dishes, appetizers, desserts, whatever is needed. I was glad to find that TJ's had nitrate-free hams, too - they're hard to find! Sure, they're more expensive, but can't put a price on your health. Very interesting to hear you're fasting this week. Do you then get to eat meat on Sunday? I could never try on clothes for an afternoon right now - it's bad enough just to get dressed once in the morning! When will you be going back home?

  7. Aww, your bunnies are so adorable!! I've not done much Easter decorating this year. We have our home on the market, it's just easier to keep things simple! Easter Sunday, I'll have a pretty tablescape though!

  8. You are joining my shoulder club. Not good. I am going to PT three times a week for 1.5 hours but if I can avoid another surgery I will do it. Love the basket of hankies. I bought some hankies this week.

    1. My PT is only 2x/week for an hour each time, but of course, I have exercises to do at home each day, too. I didn't know you already had a shoulder surgery. Yikes! The "basket of hankies" on my kitchen table is actually a basket of cloth napkins. :-)

We had a bit of snow the other day too. Hopefully this was winter's last hurrah! :)
